The Mental Health Benefits of Doodling

The Mental Health Benefits of Doodling

For me the mental health benefits of doodling are way beyond just having fun. If you have ever had the experience of having a bad day at work and wanting to scream to get attention then you know how awful it feels. But when you start to let your imagination do the heavy lifting for you instead of forcing your brain to function with the crayon by your side. It is no wonder that many adults find mental exercises to be a great relief after they have been dealing with too much stress from their jobs or their problems in relationships. So take a moment and try out some of these mental exercises I am going to give you.

The first exercise requires that you start with an old piece of paper and start drawing. You can draw anything from a simple picture of something on the top of a cup to a detailed scene of what you want your finished piece to look like. This will not only help you to relax but will also help you focus on drawing. The second exercise requires that you start writing. Write down things that bother you throughout the day on a piece of paper. Now, as you are focusing on writing these things out you can begin to imagine them out loud for visualization purposes.

The final exercise is something that many people enjoy doing. It requires that you start writing out loud. The reason why this is so good because you are taking time to listen to yourself and what your inner thoughts are about. By listening to yourself you are letting the voice to tell you that you are creating the negative thought patterns that you are experiencing.
